I was talking with my wife the other night about the ALT.NET conference and she asked why the people organized it (money, promotion, etc) and I said that I thought it was just a community thing. One, she couldn't believe it, and two she asked what the rest of us did to thank them for their hard work. Now maybe I'm naive, and maybe the organizers made crazy money off this and they're going to retire soon, but I'm thinking that they didn't profit monetarily and they did this purely for the love of the game.
In which case, there has been a dearth of 'Thanks!' for the organizers. To me, at least, and sorry if this isn't the case, but the most visual (and vocal!) organizer was Scott Bellware. He definitely went above and beyond the call of duty here. All of the organizers managed to pull off an awesome conference and helped to land sponsorship and some major big names in the community which made it all the more interesting and worthwhile to attend.
So, as for me, I say THANK YOU to all who organized it and worked hard and spent many a late night pulling this off.
And I'd also like to say that, once you've slept and wake up again, I'd like to sign up for the next one :)
Edit:
From Scott's original announcement post, the people to thank are:
Jeremy Miller Ayende Rahien Hamilton Verissimo Bret Pettichord Roy Osherove Jean-Paul Boodhoo David Laribee James Kovacs Raymond Lewallen Wendy Friedlander Scott Bellware
