ASP.NET MVC Preview, what would you like to see?

I was able to get ahold (legally) of the ASP.NET 3.5 MVC preview and I'm not sure what, if anything I can blog about. I've sent emails to the MSFT folks, but have received no reply. So I figure I can blog about it without getting into too many details (posting Reflector screenshots and such).

I've been looking around to see what other people are posting and have found quite a bit about it already, so I'm not sure what I could write about that would contribute anything. I started writing up a post about how doing TDD would work much better with the new MVC framework as it stands today. But that's been covered in various ways in a few other places.

What would you like to see that isn't out there already? More AJAX vs. MVC stuff? More testability stuff? Please suggest and I'll start writing it up :)

How about some examples of updating and deleting records in the database. There are a bunch of examples of querying and displaying list of stuff, but I havent seen many with the other stuff. And, maybe some stuff showing examples/best practices for rolling your own post back (yeah, sometimes you may want to still do that).

Oh, and I just found your blog from dnk. Good stuff.

I'd like to see how well the MVC framework can be rolled into an existing webform project. A lot of us might have to slowly integrate MVC into our web projects, so both will have to place nicely. 11/30/2007 11:19 AM | Jim Geurts

@Jim: They co-exist nicely. In fact, you can even call an MVC view ASPX page directly and it will use the old WebForms model (and NOT use the controller!). I guess this is technically a bug, but there could conceivably be some circumstances where you might want this.

but what I think you're talking about is that you want to have /OldWebForm.aspx work the old way and the url /Controller/Action/Param use the new MVC framework, all in the same project, right?

I am kind of interested how ASP.NET MVC compares to [ScriptService]s. I recently built something using just AJAX and script services. It was nice, but the painful part was converting JSON --> DOM Elements when updating. With monorail, you can render a chunk of HTML and use prototype's update functionality to update a table or something. Same with ASP.NET MVC? With good AJAX libraries, I don't see so much benefit to ASP.NET Classic or other pure HTML rendering technologies. 11/30/2007 7:26 PM | Chris Bilson

@Chris: I don't see any reason why you WOULDN'T be able to do that. I'm haven't done too much w/r/t AJAX in either MonoRail or MVC, so I can't speak from authority, sorry :( If you can point me to a specific example of something in MonoRail, I can see if I can figure out how to do the same thing in MVC.NET 11/30/2007 10:06 PM | Chad Myers
